TEEN TEXTING SOARS; WILL SOCIAL SKILLS SUFFER?

TEEN TEXTING SOARS; WILL SOCIAL SKILLS SUFFER?

I chose this topic, because I am one of the people who always need to message. This topic has a huge importance in terms of individual and societal. I have some valid reasons for it. The most important reason is that I am a student and so, I should live according to its necessity. Text messaging has been skyrocketed activity for a few years and it has some reasons. It has really high portion of teens’ lives and they have valid reasons for using it, in my opinion. First, the most important reason of its popularity is being the cheapest way of communication between friends. Every GSM operator has had some campaigns encouraging teens to text for some years and its cheapness compare to calling attracts them. For example, Vodafone has a campaign 10000 and 2000 message pocket and it is only 9 liras. It doesn’t affect teens’ pocket money, which is the most important thing of a teen. They know that if they call their friends instead of texting, it costs them more than texting. Another thing is that it is a useful way of hiding something they don’t want their parent to learn. If they speak at phone, their parents will hear everything. For example, in a group, when you talk about something, you can want to tell something to one of your friends and it’s secrecy is important for you, you can easily send a message and the problem is solved. For some people, teens have always wanted to send messages to their friend even if they don’t need it. Every morning they write ‘GOOD MORNING’ and every evening ‘GOOD EVENING’ and send them all of their friends. I also don’t like such messages, but it doesn’t change its necessity. To conclude, I think the number of texting has valid and important reasons which cannot be underestimated. It is an important tool which makes easy teens lives.

HOW THE WEB DESTROYS THE QUALITY OF STUDENTS’ RESEARCH PAPERS?

HOW THE WEB DESTROYS THE QUALITY OF STUDENTS’ RESEARCH PAPERS?

I chose this topic, because our teachers always warn us not to make plagiarism and instead of using net going library. I think in our conditions, it can’t be possible because of the hardness of our lessons. I read a news whose title is ‘How the web destroys the quality of the students’ research papers?’ Most of the teachers think that there is highly decline of the quality and originality in writing of students because of the easy way for getting information ‘web’. I partially agree with the teachers because students have really reasonable causes of doing it. Even if they know this decline of quality, they sometimes cannot find any solution except for web. First of all, we don’t have enough time for searching in library. There are lots of homework and exams waiting for us. For example, we have eight courses and also we have eight homework for each course. The students go to school at eight o’clock and come home at five o’clock with an extreme tiredness in high schools. The fact that they don’t want to go to library is normal in that aspect. Another thing is that there aren’t lots of library which they can go in their area, but they can have access to everything via net everywhere. This is one of the most deterrent elements against going to library, so the fact that they prefer using web at their home shouldn’t be found odd. Another reason is that all people know that most of the books have also their e-book version, so students think that everything which they find at web is the original of them. They cannot know how much of them is really true. To sum up, actually students also know that libraries are of much important value from web but due to educational disorders, they have to prefer using web to go library and they shouldn’t be judged because of this.

BEING AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT IN THE USA

BEING AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT IN THE USA
1) The students are glad to be a student in USA. Krishna thinks that American schools provides group work and improve creativity. The reason for Linxi is the opportunities and practices which those schools provide her.
2) In their country ,education system is stricter and lessons are hard but, in the USA, they can find more opportunities and have more flexible about their lessons. Krishra chose the USA because of the opportunity of creativity and group work.
3) There are some differences between their countries and USA. Education system is harder in their country and they can find more opportunity to develop themselves. In Arata’s country students should have take a major and when choose one, they can continue with it. It is a strict rule.
4) It is about 30.00 dollar in a year but it changes according to which course they had.
5) Like any other students they have some difficulties to adopt the environment. Linxi had some communication problems. Krishra thinks that she had a culture shock and she finds it normal. Arata studied high school in another country so Arata is accustomed to be international student and it is a chance of him, but culture is a problem for also him.
6) As I mention above they had culture shock. I think every foreign student have some culture shock, it is normal. For them, culture shock is a process people have experienced and feel confused when they go another country. I sometimes think to go USA for education because I am in English Language Teaching department and the best way to learn English is to live a country whose citizens speak English. Another point is that USA give students more opportunity to improve themselves and more chance to have academic career. If I can go USA, I probably experience similar process to be accustomed there and some problems, but nothing is impossible. I think these problems can be coped with.

BEING A STUDENT AT METU

BEING A STUDENT IN METU FOR ME ;
I am a sophomore student in METU. I also had some adaptation problems last year . I had some regret about proficiency exam, sometimes I think that I should not have taken this exam and studied at prep-school. The reason of it is that our department courses are so difficult and it requires to have some preparation. I really can not understand why we have so overloaded courses. I love other universities’ curriculum more than ours, for example, I do not see any necessity literature course at the first term which we have. At high school, we focused on grammar lesson, so we need to have more listening and writing lesson at the very beginning of the university in order to manage literature lessons. What I want to tell is that our curriculum should be easier than that of we have now. Only with this, maybe I can feel a university student, otherwise we can not see any differences between high school and university.
Another thing I want to mention is our campus life. It is really perfect. We can access most of the thins which we want to have. There are a lot of social activities, sport facilities, student groups etc. For this aspect, I can not see any other university which can be equal with ours. We can make a lot of friends and this makes us to get used to school and see it perfect.
The other point, maybe for most of us it is a problem, is being have to live without family. I also studied high school in dormitory so it did not matter for me very much. On the contrary, METU showed me that I am free and this made me more confident. In here, we have to do our works ourselves without any help most of time. This prepare us to real life.
As a consequent, I love METU very much. I love it’s campus, I love it’s dormitory life, I love it’s student groups, I love it’s spring festival and so on. It can not satisfy me only it’s overloaded courses. Apart from that, I often tell I LOVE MY UNIVERSITY...
